Terry Clark

After spending 20-years with high-tech firms including Teradyne and Intel,
Terry Clark founded Finelite, Inc, a provider of energy-efficient lighting systems for schools and offices. Since 1991, Finelite has grown to become one of the largest independent fluorescent and LED luminaire manufacturers in North America. The Wall Street Journal recently selected Finelite as one of the top 35 small workplaces in the US. 
  
Mr. Clark has an Engineering degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Harvard. He holds four patents and has led joint research projects with the California Energy Commission and NYSERDA.   


Jed Dorsheimer

Jonathan (Jed) Dorsheimer serves as Managing Director, Equity Research, Lighting and Solar, Canaccord Genuity. By leveraging his knowledge of compound semiconductors and device physics, Jed has differentiated his research from the Street by identifying emerging trends such as Solid State Lighting. Through bottoms up analysis and tireless market diligence, Jed has built a franchise known for fundamental research and credited with identifying key companies within that show the greatest promise of maintaining or disrupting incumbent technologies. 

 
Cary Eskow

Cary Eskow is Global Director of LightSpeed, the solid=state lighting and LED business unit of Avnet Electronics. He has worked closely with OEMs, LED manufacturers, advanced analog IC and secondary optics vendors since his first patent using LEDs was issued two decades ago. Cary has published approximately 60 articles on HB LED-based system design, and is a frequent speaker at international LED, green photonics, medical electronics and investor conferences. He is member of UL-8750 Standards Technical Committee for LEDs at Underwriters Laboratories, advisory board of SIL and editorial board of EET. His prior development work includes systems for pulmonary delivery of micronized insulin and albuterol, and LED-based optical image classifiers.

 

Ted Ferreira
Principal, LEED AP, CD+M Lighting Design
Group, LLC

 

Ted has been actively involved in the design of lighting for commercial, hospitality, entertainment and institutional facilities for 25+ years. CD+M is one of the most diverse lighting consulting practices in the world with offices in the U.S., P.R.C. and the U.A.E. and 500+ completed projects across 6 continents.  

Over the past 2-1/2 decades, CD+M’s designers have been recognized in numerous publications and have lectured in professional conferences worldwide. Ted is a member of the USGBC, IESNA and IAAPA and has received 2 IIDA Guth Awards of Excellence in Lighting Design and was selected Lighting Designer of the Year in 1998 by Lighting Dimensions International.

 

Jianzhong Jiao
Director, Regulations and Emerging Technologies
Osram Opto Semiconductors

Dr. Jianzhong Jiao is an internationally recognized expert for lighting products design, technology development, testing, standards and regulations. He holds multiple leadership positions in the lighting industry. He is the Chairman of SAE Lighting Committee, past Chairman of the NGLIA, past Chairman of the NEMA SSL Section Technical Committee, and an active member of IESNA, ANSI, UL, IEEE, CIE USA and SEMI. Dr. Jiao is the SAE Follow, and has received several industry awards. Dr. Jiao has 9 US Patents, over 20 technical papers, numerous public talks and magazine articles, and he teaches seminars and short courses for LED lighting.  He currently serves as the Director of Regulations and Emerging Technologies at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Inc.


Yi Qun Li

Dr. Li is co-founder of Intematix Corporation, and currently serves as Executive VP and CTO. He plays an instrumental role in growing Intematix and leads technology development, establishing subsidiary companies, strategically marketing products, and positioning Intematix as a leader in the SSL industry through the expansion of components and lighting products.     Dr. Li spent 20 years pioneering material innovations and developing products. He has published more than 50 scientific papers, and holds numerous patents. Koichi Ota Corporate Auditor & Member of the Board of Corporate Auditors Toyoda Gosei Ltd.

 

Nadarajah Narendran
Director of Research
Lighting Research Center
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Nadarajah Narendran, Ph.D., is the director of research at the Lighting Research Center (LRC) and professor in the School of Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He spearheads LRC’s solid-state lighting program with concentrated research efforts in the areas of LED lighting performance, packaging, and application. Additionally, he organizes the ASSIST program, the Alliance for Solid-State Illumination Systems and Technologies, an international organization of researchers, manufacturers, and government agencies working to overcome the technological hurdles facing LED lighting. Narendran teaches the Physics of Light and he is a Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.

Steve Paolini

Steve Paolini is the CTO at Lunera Lighting Inc. He first joined Hewlett Packard Optoelectronics Division in 1981. There he held a variety of engineering and management positions in California, Japan, and Malaysia.   Later he joined Lumileds and in 2007 founded Telelumen LLC, where he is currently the CEO. He has spoken at various conferences and universities on a variety of topics relating to LEDs and holds four issued patents.

 
Dr. Michael Siminovitch

University of California, Davis

Professor Michael Siminovitch is Director of the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), Associate Director of the Energy Efficiency Center, and Professor of Design at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Siminovitch established CLTC as an industry, utility, and government partnership to accelerate the development and commercialization of efficient residential and commercial lighting technologies. His research focuses on laboratory-to-marketplace technology transfer through a broad range of industry partnerships. 

Dr. Siminovitch established the undergraduate program in lighting at UC Davis and also set-up a lighting controls focus for graduate level research. Dr. Siminovitch holds a joint appointment with the Peking University Graduate School where he is assisting in the establishment of the Sustainable Lighting Center in collaboration with the lighting industry. 
 

 

Peter Singer

Peter Singer has been covering the semiconductor and related industries for more than 29 years. Now Editorial Director of PennWell’s Electronics Manufacturing Group, which includes Solid State Technology, Photovoltaics World and the ElectroIQ web portal, he was previously with Semiconductor International. He has authored more than 200 articles on all aspects of semiconductor manufacturing and related industries, including optoelectronics, photonics and photovoltaics. He has a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.

 
Robert Steele

Robert V. Steele is a consultant to Strategies Unlimited.  He retired from the company in 2010 as the Director of the LED Practice, which has provided market research reports and consulting services on LEDs since 1994.  In that position he supervised and co-authored 10 editions of Strategies Unlimited‘s periodic report on the visible LED market, as well as reports on solid-state lighting, gallium nitride technology and markets, and the supply side of the high-brightness LED industry.He ws also the conference chair for eleven years for Strategies Unlimited's annual Strategies in Light Conference in the US, and for the past years for the LED Japan Conference and Expo.  Dr. Steele has written regularly for industry publications on high-brightness LED markets and applications, and has given invited presentations at major conferences around the world. As an internationally recognized expert in this subject, he has been interviewed and quoted by major publications, including Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, and The Economist, among others.


Jeff Tsao
Chief Scientist of the Energy Frontier Research Center for Solid-State-Lighting Science

Jeffrey Y. Tsao is currently a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories and Chief Scientist of its Energy Frontier Research Center for Solid-State-Lighting Science.  His work involves integrated science, technology and economic modeling in Solid-State Lighting and other areas.   His previous positions include: detailee to the Department of Energy Office of Basic Energy Sciences; VP of R&D at E2O Communications; Manager of the Chemical Process Science and Semiconductor Materials Departments at Sandia National Laboratories; and visiting lecturer at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering in Singapore.  Jeff has co-authored over 150 publications, is author of the monograph “Materials Fundamentals of Molecular Beam Epitaxy,” and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

 

Robert Walker

Robert Walker is a partner at Sierra Ventures, a private venture capital firm focusing its investments in information technology companies.  Prior to joining Sierra, he was CEO of BridgeLux from July 2005 to July 2007.  He has also served on BridgeLux’s Board of Directors since August 2004.  From 2001-2004 he was Managing Director-US of Vincera Ventures, a US $150M venture capital fund based in Taiwan with several investments in the areas of HB LEDs and compound semiconductors.  He held various marketing and sales positions including General Manager, Pacific Rim during his tenure at EMCORE Corporation, a leading provider of MOCVD equipment to the HB LED industry 


Tim  Whitaker

Tim Whitaker is the Editor and Founder of LEDs Magazine (www.ledsmagazine.com), the leading global publication covering the applications of high-brightness LEDs and the technology of building LED-based systems. For more than 12 years, Tim has written extensively about LED markets and end-user applications, and in particular the factors that are now leading to the penetration of LEDs into the global lighting industry. He has extensive knowledge of the LED supply chain and other vertical markets beyond lighting, and closely follows ongoing developments in high-brightness LED device technology and related products. He also covers broad industry issues such as standards, government programs and funding, and patents and licensing. Tim is the Chair of the Strategies in Light Europe conference, which launched in September 2010.

 

Howard Yaphe

Howard Yaphe named CEO of Axis Lighting. Axis Lighting announces the appointment of Howard Yaphe as Chief Executive Officer, effective November 22, 2011. Howard joins Axis Lighting owners Morris and Joseph Feldman, to form the company's new leadership team.

Howard is an outstanding and experienced lighting industry executive with over 22 years of experience at Canlyte, now a division of Philips Lighting North America. Howard began his lighting career as General Manager of the CFI Fluorescent operation, rising to Senior Vice President of Manufacturing and Product Development for all of Canlyte. In past years Howard led the Philips North America Research and development effort for LED luminaire technologies in Office, Industry and Healthcare segments.

Howard Yaphe holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from McGill University and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Western Ontario. He is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers, serves on the Canadian Smart Net-zero Energy Buildings strategic Research Network, and is fluent in French and English.
