Not only are we in a global recession, but the USPTO has suddenly become stingy in granting patents. And if that is not enough, patent reform is looming. Because of that, it is more important than ever for your organization to have a patent plan that focuses as much on costs as it does possible rights. Thus, this workshop will present a process of elimination showing when you should not patent. Hypothetical examples will be subjected to a logic tree to help illustrate how inventions should be scrutinized before filing. Additionally, cost effective global strategies will be provided. 

Marshall Honeyman is a patent attorney in Overland Park, Kansas (Kansas City metro) where he is Of Counsel to the law firm of Lathrop and Gage, L.L.P. Prior to entering
private practice, he worked in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as an Associate Solicitor, handling law suits brought against the USPTO as well as ex parte to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Court. Before that, Marshall served as a USPTO Patent Examiner, specializing in the examination of inventions relating to illumination technologies.
