WORKSHOP #4 SELECTING DRIVERS FOR LED SYSTEMS
Wednesday, February 10 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
SPEAKER:
Joe DeNicholas
Lighting Products Director
National Semiconductor
This workshop will help the system design engineer understand, select and implement the appropriate drivers for HB LED systems. Topics to be
addressed in the workshop include:
- Topology overview
- Layout considerations
- Thermals
- CMC, COFF, CON, etc
- Dimming techniques (Analog, PWM, etc)
- Rev/Fwd phase dimmers & associated issues
- EMI/Dimmer compatibility
- Electrolytics & SSL applications
- Surge
- Power Factor Correction
The workshop will incorporate a customer case study and various demonstrations, including
several “what not to do” demonstrations.
Joe DeNicholas is responsible for strategic technology development for solid-state lighting applications at National Semiconductor. His background is in analog and mixed signal integrated circuit design and applications, and has been working in the solid state lighting area for approximately four years. Prior to working in lighting he developed a line of power-over-Ethernet (PoE) products, also for National Semiconductor. He holds several patents in the area of power electronics and device physics. He has a BSEE from Purdue University, graduate work in engineering at Arizona State University, and an MBA from Arizona State University specializing in technology strategy.
