Session 5: Advanced Concepts in Lighting: Intelligent Lighting: Enabling Natural Sun Cycles
Date & Time
Thursday, February 13, 2020, 1:15 PM - 1:45 PM
Recent research on the effects of wavelengths on living species has focused on the importance of providing the full light spectrum. Industry is locked in searching for the best possible spectrum at one given time. Reality is different. Light changes over the course of the day and cycles are the strongest cue to physiological or behavioral phase shift. However, to reproduce the natural light cycles, diming is not sufficient. Nature has shown that middays, sunrises and sunsets are a series of different spectrums and intensities at different times. Intelligent software-based lighting technology is now available to reproduce these cycles accurately matching the entire sun cycle, and recreating a complete and dynamic light with control over spectrum and intensity. Exposed to a complete and dynamically generated light spectrum, initial test results showed that humans, animals and plants respond to signals influencing their biological processes, daily behavior, growth and physiological stages.
